Today I’m taking you through how to create a lead magnet that converts.
Firstly, though – what is a lead magnet?
A lead magnet is what marketers (aka you – because remember if you are in business, then you are in the business of marketing!), use to create a compelling reason for a prospect to connect with your brand or business that can deliver them value. Value enough that they are willing to exchange their name and email address for your valuable piece of content – the lead magnet.
The lead magnet should be a free piece of content, but something people would be willing to pay for – as in it has to be that GOOD!
A lead magnet is often a PDF downloadable document, but it doesn’t have to be a PDF document to download – there are LOTS of ways you can create a lead magnet.

So, let’s go through the steps to creating a great lead magnet for your business.
1.Identify WHO your magnet is for.
This might seem obvious – but unfortunately, it’s not a given. Some people come up with fabulous ideas for a lead magnet – but it’s not actually about their client – but more about themselves (or yourself!).
2. Identify the ONE problem you want to solve.
The important word here is ONE – you aren’t solving war and peace, just one problem.
What is the biggest issue, headache, or challenge your prospective buyer is looking for help to solve? Remember before your prospect wants to purchase a solution, they want to know that you understand their problem.
To do this, make a list and answer:
- What are their biggest problems?
- What’s the NUMBER ONE problem or concern you can solve?
So now we have the WHO, and we have the ONE problem that we are going to solve.
3. Give your lead magnet a name.
Make it a compelling title! If your title isn’t attractive to your WHO, then you could have the best lead magnet ever, but your prospects won’t notice it! Sad, right?
You might need to brainstorm this bit.

You will see a pattern – the magnet name gives the outcome to the reader – that’s part of the attraction!
108 Social Media Content Creation Ideas – you know you are going to get 108 of them. The ULTIMATE guide to smart property investment – you (the subscriber) are downloading it knowing that this is the only guide they need. You can see what I am getting at here.
So, my biggest hint is, DO NOT over promise and under deliver. This piece of content might be FREE, but overpromising and underdelivering will have effects on your brand you will never know.
Over delivering is where we want to be. Freebie piece of content that makes them think “geez Louise, if I get this for free, imagine what I would get when I pay for xxx”.
4. Choose your format

5. Create the Lead Magnet
This is pretty straight forward – you pull the content of your lead magnet together!
6. Put it out into the world!
Once you have created your lead magnet (and triple checked it for grammar and typos!) you have your little gem to give to your audience.
So now you need to TELL EVERYONE that you have one. That you have a lead magnet, for FREE, that will solve their biggest challenge!
