My passion for Masterminds is enormous.
The title of today’s Podcast is “the Number one way to transform you and your business” and guess what it is?
Yep
Exactly
It’s masterminds.
My first mastermind was a 5 figure investment, I was in retail at the time and I had never been in such an environment before.
In fact, I’d say, I didn’t really even think of myself as much of a business owner to be honest, I was just Me, doing me things – but I had this almost yearn to do more, be more, push myself more.
So, I did.
My first mastermind session, with 15 other business owners, in the big smoke, aka, Melbourne – now remember I’m just a small town girl, who had a retail shop.
I remember walking into that room, with 1 other female already seated and I was SO nervous, and SO overwhelmed. I knew the mentor, I’d had some dealings with him before, but knew no one else in the room.
Turns, out I was the only retailer in the room too.
People talk about being outside their comfort zone – I was totally outside my comfort zone from 8 am to 8 pm that day.
I say 8pm – because that was wine time and I am happy to report I came away with 3 new besties that night, over wine, Sam, Ads and Rod!
Everyone knows friendships built over wine are forever friends!
I’ve loved masterminds ever since.
It’s been almost 10 years since that day of complete overwhelm and I’ve been involved in masterminds, near and far, big and small, ever since.
I’ve invested probably over $60,000 into masterminds in that 10 years – easy.
I now run one myself, my local Women in Business Hub and of course, as sponsored by this episode, have an online 6 weeks one coming up.
But let’s start the beginning – what is a mastermind – for those who aren’t familiar.
The saying “one plus one is greater than two” probably explains masterminds best.
When you put like minded business owners in a room, who are all there to learn, give, take, celebrate, push, and challenge – you basically have a recipe for the best and quickest way of learning and growing in your business- and you’ll grow too!
A mastermind can done face to face, in a room, or online.
Membership can be any number of people, but for me 15 or less has been a good number.
Members come from all different businesses, backgrounds and have different theories, ideas and thoughts – but that’s what makes it magical.
So, what’s the benefits of a mastermind?
Well, friendships clearly was an outcome for me.
Growth for me and my business.
And thinking about things differently – getting out of my head or out of my own way.
Oh, and your new found friends calling you on excuses, roadblocks, perfection traps and when your idea just sucks or pushing you when it doesn’t – just to DO IT – no more excuses!
Here’s some other reasons why masterminds are fabulous:
- Access to an exclusive community who want what you want and who are like minded – they also want a business that creates profit, freedom and wealth
- Instant support and a valuable network
- Somewhere to exchange ideas, create collaborations and validate your ideas to your peers (who get you – not your parents or sister!)
- People think bigger and force you to think bigger too
- You have this no found synergy with other humans – who until you joined, you never knew existed!
- You get new perspectives on your business, the marketplace and get to see things in new eyes, from other attendees sharing their experiences, thoughts and ideas
- You get honest feedback and advice and have a place to brainstorm
- You can get a 3rd, 4th or 5th opinion – test and measure at its best
- You get to tap into the experience and skills of others
- You get to learn new things and get outside your bubble!
- Boost your mental health – by having this circle of like minded people around you
- And gain more confidence in you and your business model – and of course, confidence helps with decision making
- Be inspired by others
- Help you to establish new habits – good habits that is!
- Increase your social reach by having a community you will share your knowledge with their community.
- Be keep accountable. No more fluff. No more – I’ll get around to that. No more, I’ll do that soon or tomorrow or next week or when I finish the website. Both your mentor and your peers will keep you on track and on time!
- Have 1:1 time with a mentor who’s been there, done that. Someone who’s been in your shoes, walked the path before you; and a mentor who can show you the way and hold your hand so you don’t make the same mistakes they made – they can basically get you to where you want to be quicker than you can all by yourself.
As Jim Rohn says, you are the sum of the 5 people you spend the most time with.
Jim might have said it, but I live it.
I hang around with amazing business owners, who push me, shove me, challenge me and call me out – it’s made me the business owner I am today – hand on heart – my people are freaking awesome!
If you hang out with sad people, you’ll become sad.
If you hang out with procrastinators, you’ll start to procrastinate too.
If you hand out with backstabbing bitches, you’ll be just that – come on we all remember them from school.
And if you hang out with like minded, forward thinking, business owners, who are just fabulous people as well, well then – that’s exactly what you will exude!
Whether you join my 6 week mastermind starting in August, or you join someone else’s, it doesn’t matter, all I want is for you to see the power of them.
If you’re not sure if they are for you, I guess that’s why mine is 6 weeks – dip your toe in the water – see if you like it, see if it’s a good fit for you before you commit to a 6 or 12 month programs that’s probably going to cost 5 figures.

And that number one way to surround yourself with like minded business owners via a mastermind and watch your business and you, let’s not forget you, as the business owner, transform.
