Today’s blog post is a short sharp read, because I think I share so many great tips and tricks on social media that can really help you simplify your business and grow, but the darn algorithms don’t let everyone see them – perhaps that’s you!
This is an important topic as many people don’t know about Google Alerts and what they can do to give your business a boost!
Do you have Google Alerts set up for your business?
If you don’t, then you should!
Google Alerts basically monitor the web for interesting news content. You can set them up to alert you to almost anything you want it to monitor.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When Google finds something, it sends you an email alert with the link and some information.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So, why would you need it in your business?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Well, to give you an example, the Google alerts I have set up are:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
❓ My name – Jenn Donovan – and also my business name.
I have this alert set up so that if there’s anything written about me, I find out about it! Like someone mentioned me in their press article or blog etc.
This is how I found out I was mentioned by David Littleproud MP in his press release for International Rural Women’s Day “as a strong woman leader” – that was pretty special!
I probably wouldn’t have seen it otherwise!
❓ I have “Spend With Us” and “Buy From a Bush Business”.
These alerts are also set up for my other businesses, for the same reason as above.
We send lots of media releases over time and they are picked up at different stages, I’d never know they were published sometimes if not for Google Alerts!
❓ Others I have including “keynote speaker” “NSW business awards” and a few others.
Why do I have these word alerts set?
The idea is that Google is my very own little PR Media Secretary out there looking for opportunities for me and letting me know when I get them!
It’s like my own little team of magic pixies working away behind the scenes to give me updates on things that might be useful for my business.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you don’t have them set up, do it today – if not just your name and your business name. You’ll be surprised what you see, I guarantee it!
How do you set them up – you need a Gmail account and then just google – Google Alerts! Easy peasy!

Great topic Jenn. I jumped straight onto Google Alert last time you recommended this … a very simple thing to do. Thanks 😃
