Hey there, my friend, welcome to episode 337 of the Small Business Made Simple Podcast.
Thanks for leading me your ears right now – I know you have lots of other things you could be doing or listening to – so I appreciate you.
Today you are in for either a treat or a stoke – okay, maybe not a stoke but a holy crap on a cracker moment.
After my usual announcements at the front of the podcast, I am going to share something special, strange or pretty strange with you … so stick around.
But before we start, did you get a chance to listen in to episode 336? In episode 336 I shared 5 marketing myths that might just be holding you back. I share how to overcome what’s holding you back and hold you a little accountable to the stories you tell yourself, which stops progress in your business. If you haven’t listened, please do. You can listen where you are now or go to my link: www.socialmediaandmarketing.com.au/336
I have an update on my Social Media and Marketing Conference. You’re the first to know! Mark out Friday 29th August in your diaries to come to Melbourne for the Social Media and Marketing Australia conference. I have two speakers already booked in! I am getting a little ahead of myself though – tickets aren’t on sale. They are a few weeks away whilst I work through tech and budgets, but you can (a) mark out the date in your diary and (b) put your name on the waitlist – the non-commitment wait list! Let’s get excited! Friday 29th August – lock it in!
Okay, onto today’s episode for the holy cow part.
I am going to share some audio with you. Is it the future of podcasting? Maybe. Does it spell the death of podcasting? Maybe that too – okay, no I don’t believe that for a second. BUT it will make podcasting accessible for many many more people who have wanted one but not had the time.
Have a listen to this and then I’ll come back and explain more. [I am not going to play the whole audio, just a few minutes- the whole version, go to: ]
So, let’s start with the obvious question – what the hell was that? That was the future of podcasting, currently dubbed Botcasting. Yep, that was two voices, which don’t exist except as bots, talking about my book, carrying on a conversation, having banter, having emotions and emotional tones, just like humans – except they aren’t human. They are, as I mentioned bots.
Now could I have used my voice – made a bot to sound just like me – absolutely but I didn’t because that’s not what I wanted to expose you to. You hear my voice all the time! I wanted to show you another capability of AI that perhaps you haven’t been exposed to yet or haven’t investigated for your business.
I came across the term Botcasting not so long ago – probably behind the eight ball of many. I have used the voice service played here a few times though – if you head to my speaker page you can hear them speaking about me and recommending me as a speaker – it’s soooo weird! www.socialmediaandmarketing.com.au/speaker
Now just to be clear, I didn’t prompt this bot. I uploaded my book and asked it to talk about my book – telling it the audience, a couple of key takeaways I wanted the reader to know – like marketing is simple and should be a priority etc and a few little prompts like this.
The technology produced this. It read my book, understood my prompts and set to work to bring almost 40 minutes of audio, about my book, to life.
Are you having a holy crap on a cracker moment yet?
The first time I heard this software and used it, I certainly did. It is almost mind blowing and scary – yes?
Can you tell that it’s a botcast – yeah probably – or maybe not. If I didn’t tell you, would you think it’s two Americans talking about my book?
But what I want you to know, is that Ai technology is the worst it’s going to be right now – today. It’s just improving more and more every-single-day.
Imagine if I could get this to imitate my voice and I could prompt it to produce a botcast every day with interesting marketing information – maybe about something that’s happened just that day. This technology could mean that I could produce a podcast every day of the week – not just once a day.
Is that a good thing or a bad thing? I am sure you’d have an opinion – maybe reach out to me and let me know. I am not sure what it would do to a brand if it was using AI content like this in 2025. Maybe if it was declared as AI content and not “Jenn” – for instance that might make it more palatable or maybe by the end of 2026 this episode will not be about something new and idealistic but something normal, everyday and mundane?
Anyway, I am just going to leave this episode here for you to ponder.
But I’d absolutely love to have some conversations with you about it.
If you want to talk tech (understand the tech I used), talk pros and cons, yell at me for sharing this horrendous episode with you because you are so not ready for this – then let’s chat! Email me jenn@jenndonovan.com.au or reach out in the DMs – I think episodes like this are great for creating amazing conversations and looking at marketing in the future.
But, as usual, I’ll be back next Thursday with some more marketing know-how in episode 337.
If you’re enjoying this podcast, don’t forget to subscribe so you never miss an episode and share this with a friend. And maybe leave me a rating and a review wherever you listen in. Those things are like gold for podcasters like me! PS – you can leave more than one rating and review – just saying!
If we aren’t hanging out on social media then let’s get social on social – you’ll find me on Instagram, Facebook, and my fav LinkedIn.
But whatever you do,
…….. remember small business peep, as my opening song says, there’s no point in dreaming small!
