THE FEBRUARY FREAKOUT
A funny thing happens in February… and no, I’m not talking about Valentine’s Day. I’ve seen it happen every year for the last seven Februaries I’ve been in business.
I call it the February Freakout.
The impact of a quiet January is hitting your business, the Christmas bills are coming in, client and family demands are starting to overwhelm you and panic sets in. In this panicked state you are questioning the genius ideas you had over the holidays and the big goals you set for yourself. The good intentions and motivation vanishes because real life gets in the way.
Are you feeling it? You are not alone. This is happening to women all around you right now. Every year, at exactly this time the wheels start to wobble – or fall off completely.
No good comes from a place of panic so here’s what you can do right now to calm your February Freakout:
- Action is the antidote to anxiety. Small actions do count. Sometimes we can do the hard things, other days it’s all we can do to just deal with the low hanging fruit. Build momentum with the easy stuff if you have to. As long as the actions are going to lead you to achieving your goals, you don’t need to do big, chunky hard things all the time.
- Put your blinkers on – stop looking at what everyone else is doing. Behind those seemingly graceful swans that you are watching is a Hot Mess questioning everything just like you (believe me, I see ALL the mess!!!). Don’t think because they are doing something that you should do or not do it. There is only one you and the great ideas that you had for your business are still just as valid as they were before you knew what they were up to. You will drive yourself crazy comparing yourself to them.
- Simplify – I could write a book full of examples of overcomplicated business ideas that went wrong… and I could write another BIGGER book of examples of super simple ideas that went right. Why make things harder than they need to be? Look for ways to make life simpler across all aspects of your business and life. Can’t see how?? Let me help you.
- Talk about it – A few years ago I went to a business retreat at the end of February and every single woman there ended up in tears at some point. The relief of being able to talk truthfully about what was happening for them with other women who “got it” was enormous. Reach out to your business bestie and download over a coffee or wine. Sometimes we just need to be seen. And if someone reaches out to you, take the invite. Because often when things feel bad for us, we can feel better by helping someone else.
You don’t need to worry alone. I can help get you moving forward with that next action step. Drop me an email michelle@michellebroadbent.com.au and let’s chat about how I can support you.
