Hey there – and welcome to episode 117 of the Small Business Made Simple Podcast.

Thanks for leading me your ears today – I know you have lots of choices out there and I appreciate you making me one of them.

I’m Jenn, the host, marketing thought leader and digital strategist and coach for small businesses.  And just an all round small business lover with one goal in business – to make every small business I come across to make marketing a priority in their business – because if you want to grow, you need to market!

It’s that’s simple – not easy, but simple for sure.

Just before we head into this week’s episode, I wanted to quickly tell you about my Women in Busines Retreat that I’m hosting on 21st May at Airtree Resort in Yarrawonga.

A weekend for women in business to refocus, be inspired, relax, connect and grow.  There’s only 12 spots – 4 of which are already taken.

If coming away with 12 other amazing women in business for a weekend of learning and fun sounds like something you’d like to do, then head to https://bit.ly/wibretreat to find out all the information and register your interest.

Or send me a message and I can answer any of your questions!

To say that I’m excited for you to meet my guest this week is an understatement.

This young, sparkly, amazing, stereotype disrupting lady, has changed me over the past 12 or so months.

So how has she changed me – well let’s start with how I know Lisa Cox – did I say that already – her name is Lisa Cox!  She’s an author, Instagram Influencer, speaker and consultant around inclusive marketing and media diversity.

I’ve been attending, for 12 months, now Friday zoom lunches – put on by Jules Brooke from She’s the Boss and Lisa has been attending too.  We started this during lockdown and have just kept going!

The lunches are casual networking and chat and problem solving lunches for all. (If you’d like to get involved, just message me – we’d love to welcome you into the She’s the Boss community).

So over 12 months I’ve head Lisa talk about inclusive marketing, media diversity, changing and challenging pop culture and disrupting stereotypes, among other things.

There’s not one thing she’s said that’s changed me, or not one that I can pin point.  But I am a huge advocate for you are the product of the 5 people you hang around the most – so without an amazing human like Lisa being in my world, I won’t be exposed to some of the conversations we’ve had or some of the issues that go on in the world and business world for those who don’t fit certain stereotype moulds.

She’s opened my eyes (in fact, so many diverse women come to those lunches, many have opened my eyes), made me look at my business, my marketing, other people’s marketing more to not see the good or the bad, but to see it through an inclusive or diversity lense.

But that’s enough about me, I can’t wait for you to hear from Lisa and hear her story and her passion.

I hope you enjoyed that chat with Lisa.  Make sure you go and get to know her a little more and follow her on Instagram. (other than website of course!)

She’s only on Instagram – a great advocate for picking 1 platform and going all in rather than being all things to all people – just another think to love about her strategy to change the world!

Lisa had some great advice for us all in the interview but what I took away was it’s ok not to know – it’s about trying. It’s ok with you bugger up your words around being inclusive – as long as your intent to be kind or to help is there.  Personally, I find this so hard, so it’s nice to know that advocates like Lisa are there to help and educate us through the changes we need to make.

So, as you finish listening to this, take a break – grab a cuppa and have a brain storm on how you can make your life, your business, your marketing more inclusive and advocate for media diversity.  At the very least we can do it with our money – we can change so many lives by changing a few shopping habits to support those businesses who have the same business values as us.

Thanks for listening – I really appreciate it.

But that’s it for episode 117 – I’ll be back for 118 next Thursday – look forward to chatting again then.

Have a fabulous week, whoever or whatever it brings.

If you’re enjoying this podcast, which if you have listened to here – you hopefully are, don’t forget to subscribe, share this episode with another superstar business owner who’s doing the daily grind and would appreciate someone making their business simpler, and leave a rating or review to show how much you are loving this free weekly content and my fabulous guests!

See you next week

But whatever you do,

……..remember small business peeps, as my opening song says, there’s no point in dreaming small!

I would like to acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the land, the Yorta Yorta People, on which I record this podcast and conduct my business today, and pay my respects to their Elders past and present. I extend that respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples here today.
