A common question I get asked by my clients goes something like:
“How do I write my social media so people will buy from me!”
It seems to be something clients struggle with when planning their social media content. It’s especially so for those busy multi-tasking small business owners.
If that sounds like you, then this blog can help!
As some background, on a basic level, persuasive writing helps the reader form an opinion about a topic.
Approaching your social media content with a persuasive writing mindset can help you create effective content that will resonate with your ideal client or customer (aka your target audience).
How do you do this?
Firstly, take a look at your overall marketing strategy. You should be aiming for a cohesive and integrated approach in how you market your business to your target audience.
Reviewing your strategy helps ensure your business messaging is reflected consistently across multiple public touchpoints, which in turn, shows you “know your stuff” in your business.
You see, the content on your website, should tie in with the content in your email newsletters, and both should align with what people view on your social media. Your platforms should be consistent!
Now, once you have reviewed your marketing strategy, look at your content.
Review what you are saying and how you say it. Does it align with your business objectives, goals and values?
Ask yourself:
- Who is it I serve in my business?
- Where is it that they connect with me and my services/products?
- How do I help them?
- What motivates them to come to my business?
- Why am I the expert they should choose?
- What do others say about my business/services/products?
These are the jump-points to help craft your messaging in a way to persuade people that they should choose your business.
What can you use from the answers you have written that will persuade your target audience to pick your products or services?
Remember, in social media, you have a limited number of words to show your authority.
Keeping this in mind, streamline your messaging to really refine why and how you are the “go-to” business for what your target audience needs.
Take a critical look at your refined answers, and ask yourself “Am I demonstrating to the audience (persuading them) that I know what I am talking about, and that I am an expert at what I do?”
- If you answered yes, then CONGRATULATIONS! You are writing persuasively! Now, the next step is to check this content is aligned consistently across your marketing platforms.
- If you answered no, go back and take another look at the questions listed earlier. Have another go at writing your answers – but this time do in line with writing to show your target audience why you are the best choice!
Writing to promote your business on your digital platforms can take some practice – so this is one space where you might be able to reach out to a copywriter or social media content creator who can help you craft your messaging.
