Marketing in 2024 Part 1? – Podcast Episode 284

Hey there, my amazing listener, welcome and thank you for tuning into episode 284 of the Small Business Made Simple Podcast.

Earlier this year I ran a webinar all about marketing in 2024 and what’s changing.  So I thought today will be part one of that webinar – I’ll share with you three things that you need to be thinking of as you marketing this year.

But before we get to that – did you listen into my conversation last week with Katrina Myers? Our chat was all about taking better care of yourself. Something I think many of us small business owners can do better at and although I talk a lot about marketing and growth in business, if you’re not taking care of yourself then not much is going to go right. Family first. You first. Listen into episode 283 after you’ve finished here today, if you haven’t already.

Ok, so three things you need to be keeping an eye on in 2024 so far as your marketing goes:

  1. Audiences are Dead! Or at least they are dying. Seriously if you are consistently chasing an audience rather than building a community you are going to find it harder and harder to survive. An audience is something you talk AT, a community is something you are involved in and your community interacts with each other – you’re the leader 100%, but you are creating a space for others not just throwing more content down their throats hoping they will buy.
  2. TikTok and Reels – hate to break it you but they aren’t going away any time soon. The dancing, singing and producing content to “trending music” is certainly not going to help you build your community much any more but showing up, using these strategies with strategy and showing your thought leadership, your expertise, your you – that’s the way to use these strategies in 2024. If it’s overwhelming then think two things (a) is my audience actually watching them and if yes (b) think how you could make a series of content rather than just random content. Videos that have a continuous theme work well – especially on TikTok because that’s how the algorithm works. Of course, if your people aren’t watching reels or TikToks, then enjoy them as you but don’t bother about content. (Can I just say here, never assume though – do your research before you snob the platforms).
  3. Two words to live by in 2024 – repurposing and retargeting! Repurpose your content – especially if you’ve been content creating for a while – you don’t need to produce more and more content, especially if some content works for you. Make your life simpler and look at what you can repurpose. And retarget, where’s your warm traffic and how can you remarket to them. Some ideas would be to have an email marketing strategy, get them on a list and remarket to them that way, or upload your email list to Meta and serve and ad direct to them or run google/meta retargeting ads for traffic that’s been on your website.
