3 Marketing Tips for Busy Business Owners

Today I am writing all about marketing when you are TOO BUSY to market. 

No matter if it’s the lead up to Easter, Christmas or any other “DAY” or peak time during the year – marketing when your business is flat chat can be difficult.

Top of mind marketing is so very important when it comes to peak season time – so looking at those times of the year when your business is flat out – and then planning your marketing is really critical.

If you’re not marketing to your audience, I guarantee you, your competition is, and they are winning the business.  Not because your customer isn’t loyal or they don’t love you and your products and/or services, but because they have simply been targeted and remarketed too so often by someone else that it seems like the easy choice.  Emphasis on easy!

You need to make yourself easy to buy from during peak times!  And remember what is it that you are selling – it’s not your products or services, it’s TIME and CONVENIENCE for your customer!

So in today’s blog I’m going to give you some practical tips and tricks on how to stay top of mind when you’re going out of your mind with busyness!

Like I said before, now is not the time to be taking your foot off the accelerator with your marketing.  Being busy cannot be your excuse for letting marketing go by the wayside.

That said, yes, absolutely, it matters what marketing you do in the 10 months leading up to the bat crap crazy season, but if you put aside marketing in that busy period (because you think you don’t have time), you WILL miss out on market share.

Harsh, I know but I’ve seen it too many times before.  For example, with the Christmas season, time and time again I’ll see the last week in November hit, and I hear nothing from the stores I love, from the businesses I’ve followed all year because they are busy being busy.

And I get it.  Don’t you worry, I SO get it.  I’ve been in retail.  I know what busy looks like, but I also know that a little planning goes a long way.

So, here are my THREE TOP TIPS on marketing when you’re busy – and the best bit – these tips work AT ANY TIME during the year.

  1. PLAN, PLAN and PLAN

It might seem completely obvious, but you need to plan. 

For example, with my podcast in the lead up to the end of the year, in October I planned all my podcast episodes up until mid-January – recording as many as I could over the following weeks into November and early December so I could take some time off.

Even when I had a retail store I planned, and I planned some more, especially in November for December.

I dedicated a whole day out of my calendar in mid-November, planned out our Christmas marketing and got together all the assets I needed, and I scheduled my little heart out with any marketing I could.


Once you’ve mapped out a 4-5-week social media campaign, schedule everything you can.

You can use third-party apps to schedule everything, I use Buffer.com and also Planoly.  I also use Sociamonials for Spend With Us because it posts as the business, not as an individual which is important! There’s plenty of different third-party schedulers out there or you can simply use Meta Business Suite (or Meta Creator Studio) Scheduler if you only use Facebook and Instagram.

Now – here is an important thing – leave room for some off-the-cuff marketing. But at least if you have scheduled your social media & email, you know if you do get super busy or super exhausted, something is happening and you know you are still reaching your audience you know, love and trust you (and keeping those pesky competitors away!)

  1. GO LIVE

If you just sunk in your seat at the thought of going live on social media – then start practicing now.  Start today!

Start getting used to how you sound and show up on live.  Because I can tell you it will change your world when it comes to marketing when you are busy.

To have the ability to quickly go live and showcase a new product or a new arrival in-store, and do it in less than a minute most times, is SO QUICK, CONVENIENT AND EASY!

It is going to make you mega happy rather than trying to do a post, find an image, think of an engaging caption and wonder which hashtags you should be using for maximum traction!

For example, if you are a retailer and go live on Facebook or Instagram every day in the lead up to the “special day” (like Easter or Mother’s Day which are looming), and you have an engaged audience, I guarantee you, you will see the benefits financially.

It’s amazing how many of my clients who try this strategy comment to me that they’ve had people coming in to purchase the featured item the same day (or within a couple of days) of seeing the product on their Instagram or Facebook stories!

Top of mind marketing is what it’s all about, and what’s the best way to stay top of mind? Show up live!
